On this post we’re going to compare two of the best 8K TVs currently on the market. In truth, although 8K is becoming popular there are not that many TV sets just yet to pick from, and these seem to be the front runners.
We will explain the difference between the two so you can have a look at which TV you want to buy.
Sony ZG9:
If you are interested in the Sony ZG9 8K TV the first thing that will stand out about this TV set is the size of the screen. Now you can buy this TV set in two different screen sizes which are 85” or 98”.
This gives you an extremely large screen size but something to bear in mind with 8K TVs is that you will need a larger screen size to be able to display the clarity and the number of pixels that make up the stunning picture.
In layman terms, this means that you will not find an 8K TV that is smaller in size and you won’t find one under 40 inches.
It is not as simple as picking the larger screen however but the Sony ZG9 certainly gives you a massive 8K TV.
With this 8K TV you will get 33.2 million pixels that helped to display the picture and give you the stunning clarity.
Talking about screen sizes, reading this article, it has been suggested that to get true clarity from 8K you would need to have a screen size of around 300 inches! This would be immense and impractical; but you are better off getting the biggest screen that you can if you’re going for an 8K TV.
The way manufacturers get past this is by using a special backlight on the TV to show up all the detail, so even if you have a smaller screen size you will be able to see stunning clarity.
The other thing about the Sony 8K TV is that you will get a very fast processor which is called the Sony XI Ultimate processor, and this works by using AI to change the screen and the picture depending on what you are watching.
For instance, if you are watching fast sports the AI in the Sony TV will automatically detect this and adjust the refresh rate for superfast sports. If you were watching a nature programme it will also adjust for stunning panoramic views with a slower refresh rate.
The Sony 8K TV also comes with something called acoustic surface technology which is linked to the sound and will give you two speakers, one on the top and one on the bottom and a sub-woofer in the back.
Judging by the screen size, the processor speed and the sound we recommend going for the Sony if you’re going to be watching a lot of movies and you want a fantastic cinematic experience.
Samsung QLED 8K Q950R TV:
If you’re looking to get a fantastic 8K TV but you do not want to go for the massive screen sizes then you may want to look at the Samsung. This TV comes in 62 inch or 82 inch, so it is far smaller and is more manageable especially if you don’t have the room for a large screen size.
The only problem with the smaller screen is that it will be harder to spot the differences in the display. As mentioned before, to display 8K properly would require massive screen but the smaller the screen gets the harder it will be to spot the differences.
The display that the Samsung will give you is also fantastic and will give you rich colours, depth and the other thing going for this TV is you will find it considerably thinner than the Sony.
If you’re thinking about gaming and you want to have an 8K TV to experience the latest games with a stunning display this might be the TV to go for to make it more manageable.
The Samsung also gives you a cool mode called “Ambient Mode” where it will take on the same colour as the wall behind it. You will need to download the app to do this but it means that it will blend nicely into the background, with all of these TVs because of the size of the you will almost definitely have to have it mounted on a wall; so this is a really good feature.
Verdict:
The better TV out of these two is the Sony! It will give you a true 8K TV and the screen size to be able to view all of the content as it was intended.
If you’re going for the very best, we would recommend the Sony.
However. That does not mean that the Samsung is a write-off, think of the Samsung as a more manageable 8K TV and it will work really well for people that want to get a new TV; and have the latest and greatest but not end up with a huge screen!
The processor speeds for the Samsung are exceptional and it also gives you the added benefit of having a downloadable app where you can use the ambient mode.
The Samsung would be a fantastic choice if you are a gamer and you want to have a fantastic TV to game on without it taking up the whole room.
These two are definitely the front runners for 8K TVs and you cannot really go wrong with either of these!
